About Us

In 1992, Cultural Safety Intervention (CSI) was involved in  research at the State University of New York at Old Westbury titled [Labor Force 2000]. This research highlighted the demographic changes of the workforce that would occur in the year 2000. The changes in the workforce, as supported by statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, indicated an increase in the number of multi-cultural and multi-national employees. At that time, the challenges put to U.S. employers was the need to understand this new workforce and learn how to benefit from its diversity.

Encouraged by the Labor Force 2000 research, CSI utilized its 16 years of safety management experience, both domestic and international (Saudi Arabia), and began to research the cultural relationship between Islamic Law and workplace safety.  Moreover, as value and cultural-based interventions is the basic foundation for a world-class safety system (Incident Prevention System, Figure 1), CSI envisioned this research endeavor as the platform for establishing a world class safety system, in addition to better communicating workplace safety principles to Muslim employees.

CSI's research and development work has resulted in a cultural methodology for communicating safety to Muslim employees called Islamic Based Safety©  (IBS).
